03/15/2023, (Bridgeport, TX) - Update on Nextlink Fiber-Internet Construction
The City of Bridgeport Staff and Wise County Commissioner Colby Shawn met with representatives from Nextlink and their contractor, TDC2 (including the owner), regarding installing fiber internet in the Bridgeport City Limits.
The meeting was held in response to the contractor damaging two major waterlines, which disrupted water services to our community, and ultimately caused a "boil water" notice. While adding fiber-internet capabilities to our community is valuable, protecting our existing infrastructure is paramount.
The City informed TDC2 that drilling (boring) in the City of Bridgeport Right of Way would cease until March 28, 2023. This moratorium will allow the Contractor time to design a mitigation plan (including using a High Definition Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for future utility locates) and time for the Staff to approve the updated plan/requirements. Furthermore, TDC2 accepted responsibility for the incidents and has agreed to reimburse the City for the expenses associated with the repairs.
We appreciate Nextlink and TDC2's willingness to cooperate with these new requirements and look forward to completing this much-anticipated project for our community.
