BRIDGEPORT, TX (November 8, 2021) – The City of Bridgeport announces new Fire Chief, Travis Nokes
The City of Bridgeport has reached an agreement for Travis Nokes to serve as Fire Chief.
After an extensive recruitment process, Chief Nokes was selected as a finalist and interviewed by a panel that included area Fire Chiefs and Wise County Emergency Management Coordinator. Several observers were also present during the interviews, including a representative from the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department.
Chief Nokes comes to Bridgeport from the City of Highland Village Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Fire Chief. During his tenure at Highland Village Fire Department, the department transitioned from a volunteer department. Nokes' expertise includes but is not limited to fire suppression, fire service personnel management, emergency disaster planning, fire behavior, and combustion.
Chief Nokes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fire Administration, a Master Structural Firefighter Certification, licensed Paramedic, Fire Officer II, Intermediate Wildland Firefighter, Fire Service Instructor II, Driver Operator–Pumper, and has more than 20 years of experience within the Fire Service profession.
Mayor Singleton noted that the City is confident about Mr. Nokes joining our team and that "we believe he is an exceptional fit for our community with his qualifications and level of expertise. We look forward to Chief Nokes' leadership and management support for the Bridgeport Fire Department, staffed by our dedicated volunteers."
Chief Nokes stated, "I'm humbled to serve alongside our volunteers and look forward to the future as we grow together."
The City of Bridgeport contracted Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to conduct a comprehensive search for a new Fire Chief. SGR is an executive recruitment firm based in Texas, specializing in recruiting, assessing, and developing innovative, collaborative, and authentic leaders for local governments. SGR's proprietary recruitment and vetting process produced a strong field of candidates. After a meticulous screening process, the City received 43 applications from eleven states and selected four candidates for further interviews.
Chief Nokes start date with the City of Bridgeport is November 23.
